Todays stock market is at a low right now and is putting quite the scare into people because we are becoming more and more in debt.  People are starting to panic and wonder what to do. Many are scared of a repeat of the "great depression". During the great depression one lady really helped people get back on their feet and one of her organizations is still running and helping people to this very day.

"Eleanor saw how passionate her husband was about getting this country back on its feet" and she realized the importance of people needing to get jobs and the need for jobs to be created.
Eleanor helped set up organizations nation wide that helped make jobs, she helped make tree cutting services, and helped get road clean up crews put together as well along with tons of other things this helped make jobs for thousands.

What she did was great because we didn't just give out money that we didn't have to get out of the mess we got our selves into, we encouraged people to get jobs to up the money flow and when there wasn't enough jobs we made some so that people would work and earn their money instead of just handing it out to them.

Eleanor wasn't a hypocrite either.  She didn't just say what we needed to do and then sit there and do nothing, she invested as much time as she could in her campaigns she maintained not only her home life,  but also "maintained a measure of independent public and political life by spending three days a week at the family’s home in New York City, supporting the Val-Kill factory and teaching classes at Todhunter"

This shows not only people reading about her 50 years down the road that she was a hard worker but it showed and encouraged the people the was campaigning for to work hard and do their best. She juggled a home life, a political life and a campaigning life to better Americans.

Being a teenager I understand juggling lives and having to manage your time wisely, you have to do school work, keep up with friends and for most stay in tune with extra curriculum activities. It can be stressful as a teen, so I can only imagine the amount of stress of doing that and being the wife the president of the U.S.

We should all strive to work hard to not only better our selves but the people around us we should learn from Mrs. Roosevelt and learn from her actions.

In an article written by child health care services, Michelle Obama is making an effort to cut down on childhood obesity in the schools of the United States of America. I personally believe that this is good in theory, but how Michelle says she "plans" to approach it and how she actually approaches it are two totally different things.

Michelle has changed all regulations for foods in the American schools. Schools have made little progress. Since these changes, "statistics show that more and more kids are bringing their lunch", could this be because the food is not as good as before?

Michelle is trying to get this started and in a hurry. According to this article, she plans,
"to reverse these trends, the White House plan seeks to cut child obesity and overweight rates by 2.5% by 2015 and by 5% by 2020. It's not a vague goal. Scorekeeping will be up to the CDC, which reports child obesity rates every two years."

Michelle plans on taking 12 steps to cut down childhood obesity and in putting these steps in place she is making sure that schools measure "the amount of sugar in children's diets", taking away full cookies and providing 100 calorie snack packs. Also, the schools have to serve "fruits and vegetables" as a requirement now and not just a suggestion as it was before the changes.

From my personal experiences, these changes are not very appreciated at all. Before the change, meals were severed with white bread, real meat, and they did not have such strict standards. Now, after the change, no one wants to eat. More people are having their parents or older friends bring them lunch, and the food seems more rubbery and less desirable.

I am a little worried that making these changes could effect the confidence in kids that are on the obese scale. I think that if the more obese kids feel they need to lose weight, that it should be their choice.  If they do not want to lose weight, they should still be able to enjoy the lunch provided by their school. Both options should be made available.

Why?

In the article entitled The Dangers of Drinking and Driving, driving while either intoxicated or drunk is dangerous and drivers with high blood alcohol content or concentration (BAC) are at greatly increased risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. Possible prevention measures examined here include establishing DWI courts, suspending or revoking driver licenses, impounding or confiscating vehicle plates, impounding  or immobilizing vehicles, enforcing open container bans, increasing penalties such as fines or jail for drunk driving, and mandating alcohol education. Safety seat belts, air bags, designated drivers, and effective practical ways to stay sober are also discussed.

Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally preventable. Although the proportion of crashes that are alcohol-related has dropped dramatically in recent decades, there are still far too many such preventable accidents. Unfortunately, in spite of great progress, alcohol-impaired driving remains a serious national problem that tragically effects many victims annually. Most drivers who have had something to drink have low blood alcohol content or concentration (BAC) and few are involved in fatal crashes. On the other hand, while only a few drivers have BACs higher than .15, a much higher proportion of those drivers have fatal crashes.

While society has done much to improve highway safety, you can do much to protect yourself.
Don't drink and drive and don't ride with anyone who has too much to drink. Remember, it is usually themselves and their passengers who are harmed by drunk drivers.  The risk of collision for high BAC drivers is dramatically higher than for a non-drinking driver.

Men are the biggest contributors to the drunk driving taking part in our country.

Why are men more likely than women to report drunk-driving episodes? They account for four out of five of the self-reported drunk driving episodes in the U.S. in 2010, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention — 81%. Why? Is it a matter of self-reporting? Is it a matter of men taking more risks? Of men more often acting as the driver when a couple is wasted? Men are more likely to commit serious crimes such as murder and rape ...and also appear to be the ones who stagger back into their cars after a few drinks. Perhaps it's a matter of bravado or simply mistaken perceptions of their own drunk driving abilities?

Remember, don't ever, ever drive if you, or anyone else, thinks that you may have had too much to drink. And don't let anyone else. That includes reporting drivers who may be drunk. It's always safest not to drink and drive.

Current Connection: 1.1

the future that lies ahead

Although it has been found that the rate of teen pregnancy has been decreasing, it is still a major issue affecting our youth. Throughout my four years of high school and even my eighth grade year I have been witnessing teen pregnancies. Yes some of these girls seem happy when announcing their pregnancy but do they know the consequences that will affect them in the long run? It has been found that teenage girls who become pregnant are more likely not to go off to college and they also get a slow start on their career life. Moreover, teenage pregnancy leads to more birth complications and emotional stress that could be overwhelming for most teenagers. In the article that i read(pregnant teens) it brought my attention to the fact that pregnant girls in our school is on the rise ,there have been at least 3-4 girls in my grade alone that have gotten pregnant since 9th grade and i think at least 2 of them dropped out and the others missed so much school that there grades dropped majorly. I don't have a different opinion of these girls but they need to realize the road ahead of them is going to be 10 times harder than if they would not have been so careless.

My knee!!

"Your knee is the largest joint in the body and one of the most complex, thus making it more vulnerable to injury.". Last year more than 600,000 Americans had knee surgery last year more than half where sports related. The first game of the year last year I caught a pass and took a hard hit to the knee. After being checked by the trainers they said i was "good to go" the next game did the same thing but this time i wasn't even able to make it off the field alone. All through the season I was on the sidelines because of my inability to run at full speed. The school doctor/trainer was more worried about sprained ankles than checking my knee. Last week was my first time seeing a doctor and he immediately said that my knee was seriously injured and that surgery was a possible need. luckily they developed a new medicine that heals it to where it reduces the possibility of surgery. If people would just make every thing a priority than just the easy stuff stupid occurrences such as mine could be prevented. The article by the AAOS tells how clearly if precautions and immediate actions are taken that half of the sports injuries could be prevented. some injuries are so server that people aren't able to walk with out assistance or even walk at all.

caught red handed

The mentality of todays world is "I have to have that".
in todays world people want the biggest, flashyest, most exspenisive and nice thing on the market and they will do whatever it takes to get it.Take black friday for example, people die every year because people are so selfish that they will run right over you just to be the first one in line. What has our society came to when we dont care if we are killing a person just because we want to get the first 52' tv, and what have we come to when we dont careabout steeling anymore just because its easy to access and no one will do anything about it. In New York groups of kids are raiding stores in numbers of 30 or higher most theives strategicaly plann there robberys but now people have gotten to the point to where they are to lazy to even do that because they "have to have it"

picket 9/11

The new World Trade Center is using a new kind of concrete called icrete, this will give the building more strength and more stability than the old building or any other building around. The icrete is able to be pressurized up to three times more than all of the skyscrapers in New York it has to be used with in 90 minutes of being mixed. The new walls are three feet thick and are re in forced with six times more steel than what was used for the Eiffel Tower. The middle of the building was called "basically a bunker" because of all of the saftey precausions taken, they hope that these precausions will help the minds of the up stered people be at rest as they come for there day to day travel to work.
